Lighting designed for life

For thousands of years, humans lived by the rhythms of natural light, waking with the sun and resting with the night.

Lighting For Wellness

What is MelaGen®

MelaGen® is the combination of science and of lighting for wellbeing. Our research found that controlling specific blue light in the colour spectrum, particularly around 480-490 nanometres, among other technical findings, can suppress or allows for the natural release of melatonin. Creating a well-balanced human day-night cycle.

High-Level Understanding

The Concept of MelaGen®

By controlling the amount of blue light in the colour spectrum combined with our technology, we can work with the body’s natural rhythm subtly encouraging melatonin to shift into rest mode and sleep or holding melatonin back to help with energy and focus. Versalux took this science, and engineered it to be known as, MelaGen®: light output designed to naturally align with human wellness, either fixed or tuneable to suit the needs of each space.

An easy way to digest this is - During the day, you’ll see blue skies, natural blue light signals the body to stay awake and alert. At night, that blue light fades as darkness falls, allowing melatonin levels to rise and the body to rest. MelaGen® works in harmony with this rhythm. Not by shifting colour temperature, but by actively enhancing or reducing the blue light that controls melatonin.

In care homes, workplaces, or anywhere people spend long hours indoors, light can now support better sleep, calmer minds, and more balanced days. This is just the beginning of the health benefits found by MelaGen®.

By Technology

4200K  |  CRI90  |  COI
30% more blue light for alertness.

MelaGen® Active luminaires feature specialised blue-enriched properties, providing sensational lighting properties for areas where a clear and focused mind is best, ultimately suppressing the release of melatonin.

This is ideal for:

  • Schools
  • Offices
  • Emergency Settings (such as Police Stations, Hospital Work Areas, Fire Stations)
  • Workplaces on rotating shifts (such as Food Processing, Fuel Stations, Manufacturing)
    and more.

2200K  |  CRI90
60% less blue light for deeper sleep.

MelaGen® Calm luminaires feature a completely blue-depleted lighting property while maintaining excellent colour recognition. The alluring warmth of MelaGen® Calm is like a log fire or candlelight, providing a feel of wanting to be calm.

This is ideal for:

  • Hospitality Settings (such as restaurants and bars)
  • Hotels
  • Rest Areas (in professional and personal settings)
  • Aged Care / Medical
    and more.

Transitions from MelaGen® Active to MelaGen® Calm recommended to start transition 3 hours before sleep.

MelaGen® Regen is the fusion of MelaGen® Active and MelaGen® Calm, providing luminaires that can softly transition between blue-enriched and blue-depleted lighting.

Mimicking the same lighting cycle that our Circadian Rhythm prefers, MelaGen® Regen promotes optimal sleep cycles within permanently occupied spaces, such as:

  • Hospitals
  • Aged Care
  • Military
  • Hospitality
  • Correctional Facilities
  • Residential Properties
    and more.
